Reed College then took the best writing course course in the country. That beautiful typewriter was on every poster and every document throughout the entire university. I decided to take that take series because I dropped out of regular classes. I learned about the faces of the letters “Serif” and “San Serif”. Learned various secrets of writing. But there was no sign that any of this would be practical in my future life. But 10 years later, when we built the first Macintosh computer, we wanted it all back. If I hadn’t studied that course at the time, Max would not have the typewriter that exists today with different fonts or proportions. What Windows did was emulate what Mac did. After a series of memorable events, Steve rejoined Apple with the purchase of the NeXT by Apple. At the heart of Apple’s subsequent renaissance was the technology he developed while at NeXT.
He believes that nothing would have been so good if he had not been removed from Apple. It was a bitter pill that he received at the very moment he needed it.

“When I was 17, I read something like this: ‘If you spend every day of your life as the last day of your life, one day you will be a better person.’ Every morning I stand in front of the mirror and ask, ‘Is today the last day of my life doing what I intend to do today?’ The answer I gave for a long time was ‘no’, then I realized that things had to change.
The serious choices I made in my life helped me to remember that I was a dying man. Because in the face of death, all external hopes, pride, fear of disaster or defeat – all of these are gone. About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. One morning at around 7.30 a scan showed a lump in my pancreas. I do not know what the pancreas is. The doctors told me that this was a deadly cancer that could not be cured and that I had three or six more months to live. They told me to go home and work as usual. Medically they told me to get ready to die. I want to teach children another 10 years to finish stories in a few months. Keeping family affairs in order. In short, start saying goodbye.
The same day passed with that discovery. That evening I did a tissue analysis again. They took a few cells from a tumor in my pancreas and examined it. I was unconscious. But as my wife later told me, the doctors, realizing that cancer was a rare condition that could be surgically removed, mourned uncontrollably. They performed the surgery. I’m fine now.
It was the closest place to death for me. I hope it stays that way for another few decades. From that moment on I could say with certainty that death was an earlier concept and was only intellectually useful.
No one wants to kill. At least those who want to go to heaven do not have to go there through death. But death is a common destination for all of us. No one missed it. That is because death is the best thing you can do in life. That is the transformer of life. It allows the old to be renewed. You are new at this moment. When I was young, I had a wonderful publication called The Total Earth Catalog. It is one of the Bibles written for my generation. It was created by a man named Stuart Brand. He also used his poetic intellect for that expression. This happened in the early 1960s, before the advent of personal and desktop computers. Everything was done using a typewriter, scissors and a Polaroid camera. That’s how Google printed it. Thirty-five years before Google came along, he did something that was full of ideals, clean methods and high concepts.
Stuart and his team reprinted the entire Earth catalog several times. Once their purpose was fulfilled, they released the final edition. That was in the mid-1970s. I am exactly your age. On the back cover of that final print they had printed a morning picture of a rural road. If you are a very inquisitive person it is a scene that prevents you.
